FOEGE OUTLINES GROWTH PLAN FOR IOWA ECONOMY
Des Moines, Iowa – State Representative Ro Foege of Linn
County outlined a six-point plan to grow Iowa’s economy at the State Capitol
today. The goal of the plan is transform Iowa’s economy and create high
skill, high paying jobs in all parts of Iowa.
“While we are facing another difficult budget year, we can’t afford to focus
only on our short-term problems,” said Foege. “We need to transform our
economy to compete and win in the 21st century. Our young people should not
have to leave their hometowns to find a good job.”
The plan includes encouraging regional cooperation through financial
incentives; helping small businesses provide health insurance for their
employees’ families; maintaining small business development centers and
employment offices in rural Iowa; providing a stable funding source for the
Grow Iowa Values Fund; streamlining government and tearing down barriers
that hinder business development; and renewing the state’s commitment to
quality of life initiatives.
“Businesses around the state are being squeezed by skyrocketing health care
costs and some small businesses are being forced to choose between dropping
health insurance for employees or closing up shop,” added Foege. “The state
can play a role in helping small businesses find access to affordable health
care.”
“If we are going to transform our economy, it’s essential that no corner of
Iowa be left behind,” said Foege. “My plan will make sure that all of rural
Iowa has access to the same development resources and assistance as our
urban centers. With a new regional approach to economic development, we can
also make sure that financial incentives and technical assistance are
available in all our communities.”
